MGV „Eintracht” Oberhaid
The MGV „Eintracht” Oberhaid is the umbrella association for the JBO „Eintracht” Oberhaid. Having seen the success of their sub association’s site they wanted to have a site designed for their other groupings as well.
Since there is no consistent style being used throughout the whole organization a requirement for the site’s design was to be consistent with the different logos and colors of the sub groupings.
As usual among my sites valid XHTML 1.1 and CSS as well as meaningful semantics were critical while building the site. I also paid attention to the text scalability: you should be able to increase your browser’s font size by 2 to 5 steps (depending on your browser, font and default font size) without breaking the layout.
The layout is tested and working in Safari 3 Windows, Firefox 2 and 3, Opera 9.2 and 9.5 and Internet Explorer 8, 7 and 6 (although a small notice is displayed in Internet Explorer 6). The alpha transparency effects - e.g. the drop shadow on the content box - have been achieved using PNG8 with alpha transparency. PNG8 is significantly smaller in file size compared to PNG32 but still supports a 4bit? alpha channel, which makes it the perfect image standard for alpha transparency on the web. Unfortunately, not a lot of programs can actually create these PNG8 image with alpha transparency. The transparency doesn’t break in Internet Explorer 6 (like PNG32 transparency would) but degrades nicely by rendering alpha transparency fully transparent.
The software being used is once more WordPress for it’s simplicity.
